Armor and Defense

Armor rating:

Armor rating is a measure of how difficult something is to hit. An unarmored human has a base armor rating of 10. This number increases as the he becomes more difficult to hit. The armor rating of a character is equal to = 10 + quickness attribute + ranks of combat defense skill + armor bonuses + magical bonuses + racial modifiers + miscellaneous modifiers. Situational or cover bonus may also apply in a specific encounter.

Combat Defense Skill:

Combat defense is considered a combat skill.  As the player becomes more proficient in fighting defensively, he becomes more difficult to hit.  Each rank of the combat defense skill adds +1 to the character's armor rating.

In many game systems the amount of body points a character has increases as the character advances.   Thus at higher levels a human character may have as many body points as a dragon.  This makes no sense.  The purpose of this increase is to reflect his increased proficiency in fighting defensively, but unfortunately it also makes him more immune to magical damage, poison damage, and other similar effects.  By adding a combat defense skill this overcomes these problems.
