ENTS,

Bob Leverett and I have been discussion the possibility of an impromptu ENTS
gathering down here in the southern Appalachians for quite some time. Ed
Frank also asked about it a while back so. let's do it! I have found a
"lodge" in Black Mountain, NC at camp Rockmont
(http://www.rockmont.com/rental.shtml) that has the seriously reasonable
price of $21 per night per person. Wonderful setting and great space to be
in and do our thing. I have done one measuring trip at the camp and found
tuliptrees over 140' and black oak over 130'. Much more to discover just in
the backyard! 550 acres!

Here are some ideas:
  • Slide presentations

  • Measuring modeling workshops

  • Tree/shrub ID

  • Tree climb introductions?

Field Trip Ideas

  • Smokies (of course)

  • Cataloochee

  • Big Creek

  • Red spruce hunt

  • "Pine Flats"

  • Mountain Mama climb (white pine 12'4" X 175')

  • Linville Gorge

  • Chimney Rock State Park

  • South Mountains State Park

  • Biltmore Estate

  • BRP/Craggies (Josh?)

  • Any other sites Josh, James, Mike know of that need a good Ruckering

Contests

  • Guess the height

  • Guess the volume

  • Pizza and beer

What I need to know is who, if anyone can make it. I need to get a deposit
in on the lodge to hold it so commitments would be great! I know most local
folks may not want to stay there but seriously- you will be missing out on
all the fun! Plus, isn't hanging with your ENTS buddies worth $42???

So, we would be looking at Friday and Saturday nights; April 18 and 19.

Any takers?

Will and Bob
