Regrown Tree at Weymouth Furnace, NJ Barry Caselli
June 06, 2009

Here's a tree that re-grew after most of it broke off a long time ago. It's growing along one of the old millraces at Weymouth Furnace County Park. This is along County Route 559 in Hamilton Township, Atlantic County.
You know, I forgot to look to see what kind of tree it was! I forgot all about it. But I think there are only two possibilities- either Swamp Maple (Acer rubrum) or Sweetgum.

Prior to the mid 1840s there was a bog iron furnace there. Starting in the 1860s there were two paper mills there, and the ruins exist from both.

Enjoy the photo.
