![]() Beth Koebel Member - joined Sep 26 2007 Location: St. Louis, Missouri I was raised in a small college town (my high school class was the largest to graduate with 77 people) about 25-30 miles east of St. Louis. This town is in the area where one side of my family immigrated to. After high school I went to one of college where I flunked out. I then went to work at fast food joints, Domino's, McDonald's, etc. and taking a class or two at a community college. 12 years later I had a AAS degree in Medical Technology. My first real job was at Alexian Brothers Hospital located on South Broadway in St. Louis. You might of heard of a movie based on a case there--The Exorcist. After two years I decided to go to medical school and yes you can go to medical school without having a BS. I then spent about two years living on St. Maartin in Netherland Antilles in the Caribbean. Yeah, I know what you are thinking, that was rough :-) I did enjoy walking out my back door, picking a banana off of the tree and sitting back watching the fish swim in the ocean as I ate the banana and had my morning coffee. There was the beautiful sunsets, thanks to the volcano on Montserrat. On the other side of the coin I was there for med school and you had to watch out for the hurricanes. The largest and most powerful one I went through was Georges. This occurred the same year as Mitch. Georges was a category 3-4 (depending on whom you talk too) and Mitch of course was a category 5. I transferred to a med school in Juarez Mexico because they promised to have clinicals in the USA. I then lived in El Paso, Texas for little more than year. I then transferred to yet another med school that I knew had clinicals in the US and moved to Chicago. I did my Clinicals at Jackson Park Hospital just south of the Museum of Science and Industry. After my graduation in Boston, Mass. I returned home to St. Louis to work as a lab tech. When I moved back to St. Louis I moved to Kirkwood, Mo which is close to where another side of my family settled when they arrived in the US from Europe. I have lived here for the last 7 years and will be moving about 15 miles farther west this summer when my house is built. I will send you a photos of the area I like to go and relax in, Oakdale Illinois (this is the area where my mother's father's family settled) and the farming community it serves a little later. |
