Races

A wide variety of races are listed in fantasy literature. These races and others may be adapted from other games or from descriptions in the literature with the guidelines provided as a base for these adaptations.. Summaries of the most common of the races are provided below. More detailed descriptions of these races and many other races are provided later in this section.

Dwarf: Shorter, 4 to 4 ½ feet tall but stockier than humans., +1 toughness. Dwarves have, in addition to normal vison, dark vision, stone-sense, and a +2 bonus to saves against poison. They gain the mystical skill mystical resistance at rank 2 as a racial skill.

Elf: Thinner, but as tall as humans, +1 perception. Elves are commonly magic users. Elves have, in addition to normal vision, low-light vision.

Gnome: 1.5 to 3 feet in height, +1 quickness. Most gnomes, in addition to normal vision, have dark vision. Forest (or wood) gnomes have low-light vision instead.

Valemen: These appear to simply be shorter versions of humans standing about 3 feet tall and weighing from 30 - 35 pounds, +1 perception.

Human: Range widely is size, coloration, and physical and mental capabilities. Humans have no attribute penalties and get a +1 bonus to any one attribute of the players choice.

Half breeds in general will be considered to have the characteristics of one of their parents, but not a mixture of both. Those half-breed races described in literature or in other game systems may optionally be used as described.

When using races adapted from other sources, the given physical characteristics of the race will be based upon the written description. Some cosmetic changes may be allowed. Cultural background of members of these races, as found in their published descriptions may be altered to suit the campaign or background concept for the character.
